THE De CASTRO SISTERS Teach Me Tonight BCD 16381 AH
Fabor Robison had achieved regional success with hillbilly records by acts including Jim Reeves, the Browns and Johnny Horton. So who could have predicted his signing of three
singing siblings from Havana, who had idolized the Andrews Sisters? But when Robison spotted Peggy, Cherie and Babette de Castro performing at the fashionable Moulin Rouge
night club in Hollywood, he signed them almost immediately. Teaming them with arranger Skip Martin — an alumnus of Les Brown’s band who had become a successful music
director for major film studios — Robison hit with the de Castro Sisters’ first single: Teach Me Tonight. This collection by the group includes everything that Abbott recorded by the trio
, plus all of their RCA sides — released and previously unreleased — save for a Christmas single. The extensive liner notes include new interviews with Peggy and Cherie de Castro,
detailing their remarkable journey from a Cuban sugar plantation to the stages of Hollywood, New York and Las Vegas

DUB DICKERSON Boppin’ In The Dark BCD 16372 AH
Dub Dickerson made his name as a songwriter, penning such country standards as Lefty Frizzell’s Look What Thoughts Will Do and co-writing Ricky Nelson’s rock ‘n’ roll classic
Stood Up. Rockabilly fans also know him through his proto-rock hillbilly jump recordings like My Gal Gertie and for penning Dennis Herrold’s Hip, Hip Baby and Make With The
Lovin’. A versatile writer and performer, Dickerson cut almost everything in his career: western songs, honky-tonk, hillbilly boogie, rock ‘n’ roll, country-pop. Bear Family has here
collected all of the Dallas-based singer’s early output, including his 1950 debut for Imperial, his 1951 Decca sides — both cut at Jim Beck’s famed Dallas studio — through to his 1953
-55 Nashville sessions for Capitol, and later recordings for Sims, Imperial (again), Todd and Tower — everything except his final album for Sims in 1962. Included are such excellent
sides as My Gal Gertie, Mama Laid The Law Down, Must’ve Drove My Mules Too Hard, Shotgun Wedding, several unissued recordings, and an excellent rocking demo from 1957, Boppin’ In The Dark.

LITTLE JIMMY DICKENS COUNTRY BOY LP Size 4-CD Box with BOOK BCD 15848 DI
He has been a mainstay of the Nashville music scene since 1949, but he’s one of the least-appreciated artists in the city. Now he’s one of the last real country artists who grew up
back in the hills and started off singing pure mountain music. When Jimmy came to Nashville, he signed with Columbia, and this set gathers his complete Columbia recordings from 1949-1957.
Jimmy not only recorded superb uptempo novelties like Take An Old Cold ‘Tater And Wait, Country Boy, I’ve Got A Rocket In My Pocket, Hillbilly Fever, A-Sleepin’ At The Foot Of
The Bed and Out Behind The Barn, but he was also one of the great ballad singers of our time, recording enduring and heartfelt ballads like My Heart’s Bouquet and the original
version of such country standards as Take Me As I Am Or Let Me Go, Life Turned Her That Way, We Could and Another Bridge To Burn.
Jimmy also hired some great pickers including Jabbo Arrington, Spider Wilson, Grady Martin, and Thumbs Carlille. The 104 tracks on this collection begin to set the record straight on Little Jimmy Dickens!

World War II, Dolan quickly became an important presence on the California scene, first as a deejay, then as a performer and recording artist. Dolan could sell a song — and anything
else. Bear Family has collected the cream of his 1949-55 Capitol years here, including Hot Rod Race and other sought after sides like Juke Box Boogie, Tool Pusher On A Rotary Rig

JOE DOWELL Wooden Heart BCD 16647 AH
"If you enjoyed 'Wooden Heart,' Joe Dowell's #1 hit record from the '60s, you'll really like his other, nostalgic-era songs now featured on Bear Family Records.” (Pat Boone)
This is absolutely quintessential early Sixties pop. Pop before the loss of innocence. Joe came to Nashville during a school break, and was signed by Mercury Records. He was
whisked into the studio, and offered a chance to record a song that Elvis had out on an album - but not a single. That song was Wooden Heart, and it topped the US charts in
1961. His only hit has been anthologized plenty of times, but this is the first CD ever devoted to the Joe Dowell story -¦and it’s an interesting one.
Thousands of people who bought Bear Family’s '1000 Nadelstiche' series will find that this is an intriguing footnote to that series, and others who simply love early Sixties pop will
finally get a chance to hear what else Joe Dowell could do (hint: there are many other German-themed songs). As a bonus, there are two answer songs: Linda Hall’s You Don’t Have A Wooden Heart - and Rhea Renee’s I Too Have No Wooden Heart.
Wooden Heart (English version) - The One I Left For You - Little Bo Beep - Our School Days - The Bridge Of Love - Just Love Me - The Thorn And The Rose - The Sound Of

JOHNNY DUNCAN LAST TRAIN TO SAN FERNANDO LP-Size 4-CD Box with Book BCD 15947-DI
In the hey-day of the skiffle music boom of the mid-1950s, numerous skiffle groups recorded their gems and came and went. There were however, two larger-than-life personalities that
made a big impression on the public at the time; one was of course, Lonnie Donegan, the other was Johnny Duncan & His Blue Grass Boys. Johnny Duncan was certainly not
bluegrass, despite the group´s name. He was not strictly skiffle; he was not strictly hillbilly. What he was though, was an irresistible hot-pot blend of all these elements, and more,
served up on records that captured the imagination of record buyers in 1957. He was the shot in the arm that skiffle needed. Last Train To San Fernando was the ‘buzz´ record of the
year.Johnny Duncan was resident in England but was a real American, his vocal style was influenced by the ‘high-lonesome sound’ of the Bluegrass singers. The kids loved that ‘high
lonesome voice’ that soared over our heads and the sheer fun those Blue Grass Boys were clearly having making those records The early Joe Meek sound sealed that excitement in!
The distinctive guitar plucking of Denny Wright and the wild ‘electric´ fiddle of Danny Levan fly high up there with Johnny and his brilliant mandolin.Last Train, Footprints In The Snow
and Blue Blue Heartaches were his chart hits, but the others such as Get Along Home Cindy, Ella Speed, Kaw-Liga, If You Love Me Baby and the rest are just as good and sold well.
Here are all his Columbia recordings, issued and unissued, the three albums, which include his ‘Tennessee Song Book´ and ‘Salute To Hank Williams´ 10" LPs. We have dug up two
rare early broadcasts and present every recording Johnny made up to 1973, including his Pye , Lucky and Decca recordings
