Narvel Felts started his professional career in 1956, making his first studio recordings in 1957 at 706 Union Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee for Sun with Jack Clement producing.
From these sessions, Did You Tell Me (aka You Don’t Care) and My Babe have become rockabilly favorites. His Mercury sessions from 1957 and 1958 produced his first released
items, Kiss-A-Me-Baby, Foolish Thoughts and the storming sax-led instrumental Rocket Ride. 1959 and 1960 saw Narvel’s first chart success with Three Thousand Miles and
Honey Love on Pink. All the Sun, Mercury, and Pink masters have been assembled alongside the 1960 MGM session for this new CD that features all the early studio cuts of Narvel Felts.

RED FOLEY Sugarfoot Rag - Gonna Shake This Shack Tonight BCD 16578-AH
Marty Robbins, country's most versatile vocalist, came through the door that Red Foley
opened. From singing raw hillbilly on the WLS National Barn Dance he broadened into gospel, western swing, pop and gospel during his quarter century on Decca, years he rode
high on the Grand Ole Opry then hosted TV's Ozark Jubilee. Beyond his classic weeper Old Shep or even his definitive performance of Peace In The Valley, Foley was an energy force whose recorded repertoire also encompassed straight-ahead country, boogies, blues,
rockers and his biggest country (and pop) smash: 1950s Chattanoogie Shoe Shine Boy. Starting with his powerful 1947 cover of the Delmore Brothers' Freight Train Boogie, ending with the 1958's intense Crazy Little Guitar Man, Bear Family's Foley edition of
'Gonna Shake This Shack Tonight' offers up 30 songs worth of the wild side of Red, featuring:
•- The boogie favorites Tennessee Saturday Night, Chattanoogie Shoe Shine Boy,
Sugarfoot Rag, Milk Bucket Boogie and Plantation Boogie, Everybody's Gonna Have A Wonderful Time Up There ( Gospel Boogie) and, with Ernest Tubb, Hillbilly Fever # 2, spoofing Little Jimmy Dickens's hit.
- Duets with pop singers Evelyn Knight and Roberta Lee. •- Swinging performances of Alabama Jubilee, Chicken Reel and Hot Dog Rag. - Red's spin on the R&B hits Hearts Of Stone and Shake A Hand. - Accompaniment by Nashville's pioneer A-Team session musicians: Zeb and Zeke Turner, Jerry Byrd, Owen Bradley, Tommy Jackson, Harold Bradley, Hank Garland, Grady Martin,
Farris Coursey, Ernie Newton, Bob Moore, the Anita Kerr Singers and legendary Nashville pop musicians Beasley Smith and Francis Craig. - A previously unissued 1950 Foley duet with legendary black R&B singer-pianist (and Decca artist) Cecil Gant on Paging Mister Jackson, clearly meant for release but perhaps too far ahead of its time. - An essay by Rich Kienzle.

RED FOLEY Old Shep - The Red Foley Recordings 1933 - 1950 6-CD-Box (LP-size) with 96-page hardcover book BCD 16759 FL
During his long career, which spanned more than three decades, few artists have blazed as many trails as Red Foley. He became country music's first 'crossover' artist. He was also the
first country singer to be featured on network radio and television programs. Foley was hugely popular wherever he went, beginning with his years as 'Rambling Red' on WLS
Chicago's 'National Barn Dance,' and continuing with the 'Renfro Valley Barn Dance,' and finally as the genial host of the famed 'Grand Ole Opry' and the landmark television show, 'Ozark Jubilee.'
Foley's life was a tragic one. In retrospect, his personal problems seem insurmountable, yet Foley's charisma and talent saw him through these troubled times; his many recordings are his
finest legacy. Nearly every Nashville-based star of his stature has had his or her story told by now, everyone except Red Foley. This box set and hardcover book document Foley's
remarkable recording career. Included is every commercial recording made by Foley up to 1950, with the exception of his sacred and children's recordings. Featured are his recordings
with the Cumberland Ridge Runners, duets with Lulu Belle and Ernest Tubb, and of course, his greatest hits, such as Chattanoogie Shoe Shine Boy, Smoke On The Water, Old Shep,
New Jolie Blonde, Tennessee Saturday Night and Sugarfot Rag.
With the 164 songs on this 6 CD box, Bear Family Records brings together all of his recordings from 1933 - 1950 for the first time. Most of these songs have never been on CD,
and many have not been available in any form since their original release 75 years ago, including 18 songs that are issued here for the first time.
The hardcover book contains an essay by Cary Ginell, a discography by Cary Ginell, Dave Sax & Richard Weize and many rare pictures and illustrations.

TENNESSEE ERNIE FORD Songs Of The Civil War CD DIGIPAC BCD 16635 AS
American Civil War enthusiasts have long treasured Tennessee Ernie Ford's 'Civil War Songs Of The South' and 'Civil War Songs Of The North.' Released by Capitol Records in
1961 at the start of the Civil War Centennial, these albums gathered long-forgotten patriotic numbers, dramatic saga songs, rousing camp sing-alongs and sentimental parlor tunes from
the bloody four-year conflict between the Union and Confederate states. Both albums stand as a testament to Ford's sensitivity and versatility as a vocalist. No other
American popular singer of his era could interpret such diverse, historic material as effortlessly as Ford did on his Civil War albums. He breezes through spirited comic songs
with the same light-hearted touch that made him one of the country's most beloved television personalities. His somber, unforgettable bass-baritone vocals on Lorena and The Vacant Chair underscore the sadness and despair that inspired these laments. Ford's musical
director Jack Fascinato skillfully blended elements of period authenticity into arrangements that would appeal to contemporary audiences.
Ford fans and Civil War enthusiasts alike have long waited for a definitive compact disc reissue of these classic albums. An earlier Capitol CD collection, released after Ken Burns' acclaimed 1990 documentary series The Civil War aired on American public television,
slipped out of print before anyone knew it existed. Copies now fetch more than US$100 on collectors' markets â“ when they turn up at all.
This Bear Family compact disc finally restores all twenty-four songs from these landmark LPs. This reissue also includes a booklet containing the complete lyrics for each song â“
including verses that Ford and Fascinato edited from their recordings â“ and new notes on the songs and original albums by Dave Samuelson.

Kinky Friedman They Ain't Making Jews Like Jesus Anymore CD-Digipac BCD 16755-AR
Who said “They ain’t making Jews like Jesus anymore”? It was, of course, country music’s
resident iconoclast Kinky Friedman. These days, you’ll find more Kinky Friedman books in
bookstores than Kinky Friedman records in record stores. We’re trying to change that by issuing his historic second and third LPs together on one CD.
The second LP included the now-classic They Ain’t Making Jews Like Jesus Anymore, as well as Kinky’s version of Billy Swan’s hit song Lover Please (Rock-a-Billy Swan had served an apprenticeship with Kinky). By the time of the third LP, Kinky was on Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue and had moved to Dylan’s record label. Dylan gave him a song he had yet to record, Catfish (dedicated to the great baseball pitcher Catfish Hunter), Eric Clapton was on hand to play guitar, and Ringo Starr did a narration on one song. It was an all-star event, and, like the second LP, has never been reissued in Europe.
