THE De CASTRO SISTERS Teach Me Tonight BCD 16381 AH
Fabor Robison had achieved regional success with hillbilly records by acts including Jim Reeves, the Browns and Johnny Horton. So who could have predicted his signing of three singing siblings from Havana, who had idolized the Andrews Sisters? But when Robison spotted Peggy, Cherie and Babette de Castro performing at the fashionable Moulin Rouge night club in Hollywood, he signed them almost immediately. Teaming them with arranger Skip Martin - an alumnus of Les Brown’s band who had become a successful music director for major film studios - Robison hit with the de Castro Sisters’ first single: Teach Me Tonight. This collection by the group includes everything that Abbott recorded by the trio , plus all of their RCA sides - released and previously unreleased - save for a Christmas single. The extensive liner notes include new interviews with Peggy and Cherie de Castro, detailing their remarkable journey from a Cuban sugar plantation to the stages of Hollywood, New York and Las Vegas

DUB DICKERSON Boppin’ In The Dark BCD 16372 AH
Dub Dickerson made his name as a songwriter, penning such country standards as Lefty Frizzell’s Look What Thoughts Will Do and co-writing Ricky Nelson’s rock ‘n’ roll classic Stood Up. Rockabilly fans also know him through his proto-rock hillbilly jump recordings like My Gal Gertie and for penning Dennis Herrold’s Hip, Hip Baby and Make With The Lovin’. A versatile writer and performer, Dickerson cut almost everything in his career: western songs, honky-tonk, hillbilly boogie, rock ‘n’ roll, country-pop. Bear Family has here collected all of the Dallas-based singer’s early output, including his 1950 debut for Imperial, his 1951 Decca sides - both cut at Jim Beck’s famed Dallas studio - through to his 1953 -55 Nashville sessions for Capitol, and later recordings for Sims, Imperial (again), Todd and Tower - everything except his final album for Sims in 1962. Included are such excellent sides as My Gal Gertie, Mama Laid The Law Down, Must’ve Drove My Mules Too Hard, Shotgun Wedding, several unissued recordings, and an excellent rocking demo from 1957, Boppin’ In The Dark.

JIMMIE DOLAN Juke Box Boogie BCD 16192 AH
Ramblin’ Jimmie Dolan enjoyed only two minor hits in his nine year recording career - his covers of I’ll Sail My Ship Alone and Hot Rod Race - but he was a popular and prolific recording artist who used the cream of West Coast country session musicians. A Navy radioman who pursued a professional career when he got out of the service at the end of World War II, Dolan quickly became an important presence on the California scene, first as a deejay, then as a performer and recording artist. Dolan could sell a song - and anything else. Bear Family has collected the cream of his 1949-55 Capitol years here, including Hot Rod Race and other sought after sides like Juke Box Boogie, Tool Pusher On A Rotary Rig and others, including four sides never before issued. Featured are such hot and legendary West Coast country musicians as Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant, Noel Boggs, Cameron, and Jimmy Wyble.

FATS DOMINO Rocks CD digipac with 32-page booklet BCD 16825 AR
Fats Domino rocks? Well, of course he does. And he was rocking and rolling long before Elvis, Jerry Lee, Ricky, Bill Haley...or anyone else. Nineteen-forty-nine, in fact. That's when he recorded The Fat Man, inaugurating a long, ongoing career that saw him become the FIRST R&B artist to cross over into the pop charts, and the ONLY one to stay there. Some of his contemporaries scored a hit or two with this new rock 'n' roll music, but Fats scored hit after hit year after year. And all the great stuff is here. Compiled for your listening pleasure...for dancing... for education... and to pay tribute to the great New Orleans musicians heard on every song, this is the alltime greatest Fats Domino compilation. It begins in 1956 when teenagers heard Pat Boone's cover version of Ain't It A Shame, then heard Fats' original, and realized that one was hot... and one was not. Fats followed it with 65 more pop hits, and that's not counting the 13 R&B hits he scored before Ain’t It A Shame. This compilation has every hit you'd expect... Blue Monday, I’m Ready, Walkin' To New Orleans, Blueberry Hill, I'm Walkin’, and many more. He survived rock 'n' roll, he survived Hurricane Katrina, so now let's get on our knees, bow toward New Orleans, and salute one of the true, all-time greats: Antoine 'Fats' Domino.
