Now Bear Family have released four DVDs with this classic material. Each DVD contains 13 shows at approx. 15 minutes each, for a total of over 3 hours per DVD. The DVDs are black and white, NTSC, Region 0 (no regional restrictions), and include booklets of 24 or 28 pages. Watermarked.

The !!!! Beat - a new DVD reissue series

'THE !!! BEAT' IS BACK. Once THE !!! BEAT was only a legend. Fans and collectors heard that there was a television show in the mid-1960s that captured the absolute very best of the soul and R&B singers of the day. Some said it was made in Nashville and some said that it was made in Dallas. Musicians remembered working on the show and a few people remembered seeing it, but no one seemed to know what had happened to it. Did the tapes still exist? How many shows were there? Who exactly was on it?

Now, nearly forty years later Bear Family answers all the questions. All the episodes still exist! It really was a fabulous show! It really was in color! It really did feature the absolute best of the soul and R&B acts of the day! And whereas once just fragments of the shows made their way onto bootlegs, now the entire series is available in first-generation quality. It has been a long time coming, but now THE !!! BEAT is back! Soul music is bigger than ever now, just as the original practitioners are dying off or performing way past their prime. Revivalists like Joss Stone often only emphasize how great the originals were in their day, so here is a reminder of what REAL soul music was like from the absolute original masters.

'Town Hall Party' was California's largest country music barndance, running from early 1952 until early 1961. The show was broadcast every Saturday night from a theatre made up to look like an old barn in the Compton suburb of Los Angeles. Crowds numbering up to 2000 would fill the old Town Hall to see and hear the top country artists of the day. The first hour was broadcast live over KFI and reached a wider audience when NBC syndicated the show on radio. The broadcast was extended to three hours when KTTV-TV televised the show. Jay Stewart (who later hosted the TV quiz show 'Let's Make a Deal'), and Tex Ritter were the MCs and the house band featured a Who’s Who of West Coast country music, including Joe Maphis, Merle Travis, Skeets McDonald, Johnny Bond and Tommy Duncan. Artists appearing on the show included The Collins Kids, Carl Perkins, Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Wanda Jackson and, Johnny Cash. The show was so popular that, in 1958, Columbia Records issued the 'Town Hall Party' album featuring various cast members.

He gave his name to an entire style of playing...or picking. He influenced Chet Atkins, and just about every rockabilly guitarist on the planet. When Oklahoma born singer-songwriter Johnny Bond was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999, many were surprised, while industry insiders and fans with a sense of the music's history felt that it was about time. More footage has turned up than we previously believed existed, so we are happy to present The Collins Kids, Round Two. For those who weren't lucky enough to be in the audience at Los Angeles' weekly TV show, Town Hall Party, in the 1950s, we'll remind you that the Collins Kids were teenage Oklahomans who'd come to Los Angeles in search of fame and maybe fortune. They were high energy, exciting early rock 'n' rollers, underscoring that Fifties rock music was for, by, and about kids. Lorrie's stunning good looks and sultry vocals were combined with Larry's stinging double-neck guitar licks and manic stage antics. They were very visual, and thus better suited to DVD than CD.

This DVD showcases nearly every Collins Kids 'Town Hall Party' appearance in 1959. True to the Bear Family tradition, we have offered everything in the vaults. Some highlights include LaVern Baker's R&B tune So High, So Low , the Lloyd Price hit Stagger Lee (the Collins Kids had an uncanny ability at picking great cover tunes) and Larry's blistering guitar attack on Ramrod and the bonus track Mutt And Jeff Boogie with Joe Maphis. Joe Maphis's presence on 'Town Hall Party' made him a guitar legend. As the show's bandleader, his dazzling, flamboyant work was prominent behind other acts and in his frequent solo spots. Watching 'Town Hall,' Ozzie Nelson decided to recruit Joe to back his son Ricky on his first, pre -James Burton Imperial sessions. THP brought Joe studio work including film soundtracks for films like 'Thunder Road' and 'God's Little Acre.' Maphis's THP performances inspired countless rockabilly and surf guitar innovators including surf guitar godfather Dick Dale. This third Volume (together with the previous volumes) features nearly every Collins Kids Town Hall Party appearance from 1959. True to the Bear Family tradition, we have offered everything in the vaults. Some highlights include the Collins Kids' great take on Frankie Ford's Sea Cruise, Ricky Nelson's I Got A Feeling (Lorrie dated Ricky for several years, and appeared on his TV show), and the Coasters' Charlie Brown. In addition, Larry tears up his doubleneck Mosrite guitar on Johnny B. Goode, and the twin guitar showstopper Rockin' Gypsy.
Many say that Larry invented surf guitar, and on the evidence here, they're right!

Waylon stars as Arlin Grove, a young rebel trying to make his way in the music business. Sound familiar? Lovable gullible Arlin becomes a star only to be betrayed by his evil manager. With guts, determination and a few encouraging words from Tex Ritter, he makes a comeback. 'The Nashville Rebel' premiered in November 1966. The majority of the film was shot in Nashville and featured many live performances from the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.
