Jim Eanes

JIM EANES & THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY BOYS
The Complete Decca Recordings
BCD 15934 AH

Jim Eanes is remembered today as a classic bluegrass singer and songwriter who made many excellent recordings and wrote many fine songs. His bluegrass recordings have been reissued many times, but in the early 1950s, Jim enjoyed a successful stint as a straight country singer. His country recordings made for Decca Records between 1952 and 1955, have never been reissued, and, as bluegrass expert Gary Reid writes in his liner notes, Due to their unavailability over the years, they have often been overlooked when measuring the significance of Jim’s lengthy career.
Jim recorded a total of 31 sides for Decca, and they capture him at or near his best. The standout performance, I Cried Again, was a song that Hank Williams featured on his radio shows, and it highlights Jim’s resemblance to Hank during these years. The other songs include other starkly moving ballads and some Cold War era commie-baiting novelties. These incredibly rare recordings have been unavailable since the the early ‘50s (some are here available for the first time), and for Jim’s fans they will be a welcome treat. If nothing else, this set reaffirms the fact that Jim Eanes possessed one of the finest voices in all of country music.

TIBBY EDWARDS
Play It Cool Man, Play It Cool (Gonna Shake This Shack Tonight)

BCD 16557-AH

Although he charted no hits and died in obscurity, there's a cult following for Cajun-born TIBBY EDWARDS. He was on the Louisiana Hayride radio barndance before Elvis and got a first-hand look at the birth of rock 'n' roll. Seeing Elvis, he became one of the very first country performers to really understand rock 'n' roll and declare himself for the new music. His early cover version of Flip Flop And Fly and his recording of George Jones' Play It Cool Man are acknowledged rockabilly classics. Back in 1985, Bear Family issued a Tibby Edwards LP, and now, in response to fan requests, they've reissued it on CD... but they've augmented it with all of Tibby's Mercury recordings plus his singles for 'D', Jin, and Todd. In other words, everything he ever recorded.

Flip, Flop And Fly - Play It Cool Man, Play It Cool - There Ain't No Better Time - Long Time Gone - Shift Gears - You Made A Believer Out Of Me - C'est Si Tout - It'll Be A Long, Long Time - Fool That I Was (I Asked For More) - (I Don't Want To Say I Love You) But I Do - I'd Come Running - Walkin' And Cryin' With The Blues - Why Can't You Be Mine - I'm Still In Love With You - Come On Chere (Let's Have Fun) - Mine Forever - Too Proud To Wear My Name - If You Love Me, Let Me Know It - I Can't Face The Future - If You Lose, You'll Understand - That's How I Was Lost - Cry, Cry Darlin' - What Has Become Of You - Try To Understand - Just A Few More Tears - Uninvited - Big Mamou - Teenage Troubles - Day Dreaming - Promises - Memory Of A Lie - One More Night - Forever Is A Long Long Time - Congratulations To You

Melvin Endsley

MELVIN ENDSLEY
I Like Your Kind Of Love

BCD15595-AH

Melvin was the writer of Singing The Blues, but he was also a passionate and incredibly underrated singer. Crippled, he rarely left his home in Arkansas, except to make these recordings for RCA and MGM. This set includes his originals of I Like Your Kind Of Love (covered by Andy Williams), I'd Be Just Fool Enough (covered by Johnny Cash, The Browns etc.), but it also includes some of the finest little-known gems songs in Fifties country-rock, like Bringing The Blues To My Door, I Ain't Getting Nowhere With You, Is It True, and Getting Used To The Blues. Don't pass this by!

I Like Your Kind Of Love - I Ain't Gettin' Nowhere With You - Is It True - Keep A-Lovin' Me, Baby - I Got A Feelin' - Hungry Eyes - Lovin' On My Mind - Getting Used To The Blues - Let's Fall Out Of Love - I'd Just Be Fool Enough - Just Wanted To Be Wanted - Gettin' Used To The Blues - There's Bound To Be - Lonely All Over Again - Bringin' The Blues To My Door - Ain't It Fine! - Oh, Yeah Baby - Let Me Sing The Blues (Just One More Time) - I'll Get Even With You - I Can't Go Anywhere - Can I Say Something - The Search - Here I Am - You Make It Sound So Easy - For My Baby - I Wish I Knew - How Lonely Can You Get - Everytime I See The Sun Go Down - Started Out A-Walkin'

Everly Outtakes

EVERLY BROTHERS
The Outtakes
BCD 15931-AR

Have you ever wondered what it's like at a recording session? Have you ever wished you could have been a fly-on-thewall when the Everly Brothers, Johnny Cash, or others were recording in the 1950s and '60s? Now Bear Family takes you there. Many record companies kept the tapes rolling as the artist tried one version (or 'take') after another. Then, after the session, the producer would choose the best 'take,' and the remainder would be stored away never again to see light-of-day...until Bear Family came along. Now we at Bear Family have painstakingly gone through all the 'outtake' boxes and chosen those that are substantially different from the issued take, and included the false starts, studio chatter and jive as well. So now some of the greatest artists of the last fifty years are holding a session in your living room, and you're invited!

50 years after their first recording session, it seems that it's Everly time all over again. With the looming dates of their first concert tour in years and more Everly Brothers music in print than at any time since the early 1960s, the duo's heavenly harmonies have once again settled on the public consciousness. As remarkable a feat as this may seem, much of their legacy still rests upon the recordings they made for Archie Bleyer's Cadence label between 1957 and 1960. The reasons are obvious: for three years, Don and Phil were part of an unbeatable team. Bleyer provided the production and marketing acumen to launch their careers. Boudleaux and Felice Bryant composed the songs that perfectly suited their voices and Nashville pickers like Chet Atkins served up snappy musical arrangements in short order.

Now, Everly fans are invited to take a peak behind the scenes (Fly at the wall) at the process that yielded those legendary recordings. Compiled entirely of Cadence outtakes, this set features 34 working versions and musical sketches from this magical era, giving a new and totally fresh prospective on these, the Everlys' most popular songs. From the first takes of such hits as Bye Bye Love, Wake Up Little Susie and Bird Dog to alternate run-throughs of such classics as Claudette and All I Have To Do Is Dream, this collection is packed with monumental musical discoveries. So, pull up a chair and join us at RCA Victor Studios in Nashville, for 80 minutes of unheard classic Everly Brothers.

Bye, Bye Love (take 1) - I Wonder If I Care As Much (take 3) - Wake Up, Little Susie (take 1) - Hey, Doll Baby (take 4) - Brand New Heartache (take 2) - Keep-A-Knockin' (take 5) - Love Of My Life (take 1) - Leave My Woman Alone(take 1) - Rip It Up (take 4) - Maybe Tomorrow (take 3) - Claudette (take 1) - Poor Jenny (one o'clock version) (take 7) - Problems (alt) - All I Have To Do Is Dream (take 5) - Take A Message To Mary (take 7) - Bird Dog (take 1) - Oh, What A Feeling (take 4) - Till I Kissed You (take 3) - Poor Jenny (ten o'clock version) (take 3) - This Little Girl Of Mine (take 2) - Be Bop A Lula (long false start) (take 4) - Claudette (take 7) - Wake Up, Little Susie (take 6) - Hey, Doll Baby (take 1) - All I Have To Do Is Dream (take 1) - Poor Jenny (one o'clock version) (take 5) - That Silver Haired Daddy Of Mine (take 2) - Down In The Willow Garden (take 3) - Long Time Gone (take 3) - Oh, So Many Years (take 4) - Rockin' Alone (In An Old Rocking Chair) (take 12) - Kentucky (take 7) - Who's Gonna Shoe Your Pretty Little Feet (take 15) - I'm Here To Get My Baby Out Of Jail (take 2)

Chained To A Memory 1966-1972
8-CD/1-DVD Boxset with 176-page hardcover book
BCD16791-IM

The final chapter in the Everly Brothers' recorded legacy is completed with this third box set (in Bear Family's series) covering the recorded works of the legendary Everly Brothers. Including all existing masters for their sessions from 1966 through 1972, 'Chained To A Memory' chronologically collects singles, album tracks, outtakes and rarities recorded for the Warner Bros. and RCA labels. Material from such albums as 'In Our Image', 'Two Yanks In England', 'The Hit Sound Of The Everly Brothers', 'The Everly Brothers Sing', 'Roots', 'The Everly Brothers Show', 'Stories We Could Tell' and 'Pass The Chicken And Listen' is featured, bringing the Everly story to their initial split. As a special bonus a 1965 Swedish concert is included.

The enclosed DVD contains rare clips from 'Hullaballoo,' 'Swingin' Time', 'Hollywood Palace,' and the Petula Clark Special, plus the rare 1959 Swedish Production, 'The Archie Bleyer Show.'

The box is topped off by a mammoth hardbound book featuring a 1966-1973 day-by-day chronology of Everly Brothers' recording sessions, concerts, as well as radio and television appearances by noted Everly Brothers historian, Andrew Sandoval. The book is illustrated with hundreds of images (many of which are heretofore unseen) and a full discography featuring recording information and extensive personnel credits.

Placed alongside Bear Family's 'Classic Everly Brothers' box (which collected the duo's Columbia and Cadence sides) and last year's 'Price Of Fame,' this is the be-all-and-end-all for Everly enthusiasts. A must-own collection of music covering the Everlys' repertoire of Rock, Country, Blues, Pop and so much more. Compiled with the greatest care from years of research, this box set makes all other releases of the Everly Brothers from this era obsolete.
