BOB GALLION
Out Of A Honky Tonk

BCD 16439 -AH

Jumpin’ Bob Gallion is best remembered for a strong of hits on Hickory in the early to mid-1960s, like Wall To Wall Love and One Way Street, but his earlier recordings for MGM from 1956-59 are revered by both fans of hardcore country and by aficionados of rockabilly and rock ‘n’ roll. A strong-voiced honky-tonk singer in the Hank Williams tradition, Gallion dabbled convincingly with rockabilly in his earliest sessions, cutting sides like My Square Dancin’ Mama (She’s Done Learned To Rock ‘n’ Roll). Even on his toughest, most rocking sides, however, he remained a country singer in the truest sense, with a raw and classic voice. This collection contains his entire MGM output, fantastic sides like Trademark On What I’ve Found, Hey, Mr. Bartender, and Baby, Love Me, as well as four sides never before issued - a long overdue collection by a sadly underrated singer.

Hey, Mr. Bartender - Don’t Feel Lonesome - Trademark On What I’ve Found - You Don’t Love Me - My Square Dancin’ Mama (She’s Done Learned To Rock ‘n’ Roll) - That’s What I Tell My Heart - Baby, Love Me - No One Will Ever Know - Out Of A Honky Tonk - Foolish Young Heart - Your Wild Life’s Gonna Get You Down - A Fool In Love - You’ve Gotta Have A Heartbreak (To Know How To Love) - I Want Her Blues - I Miss You - You Take The Table And I’ll Take The Chairs - Run Boy - This Should Go On Forever - Froggy Went A’Courtin’ - Hey Joe

TOMPALL GLASER:

Tompall Glaser is the forgotten outlaw. Everyone remembers Willie and Waylon, but Tompall made records every bit as good as theirs, and helped develop the classic 'Outlaw' sound in his famous...and infamous... Hillbilly Central studio, where the window shutters were always closed and the door was always open. Bear Family has already released Tompall's ABC recordings 'The Outlaw' and the previously unissued 'The Rogue' and now they've reissued his four MGM/Polydor LPs on two CDs. All of his biggest hits are on these CDs, including Charlie, T For Texas, and of course Put Another Log On The Fire, which was one of the highlights of the classic 'Wanted: The Outlaws' LP.

Tompall didn't score as many hits as Waylon 'n' Willie, but the dry insolence in his voice and the understated backings made up the sound that Waylon, Willie, David Allan Coe, and the others adopted. It was the classic 1970s outlaw sound. Tompall not only composed some great songs, but had an unfailing ear for other great songwriters. He and his brothers gave a break to Kinky Friedman, who in turn also produced a couple of songs on this CD. There are great songs from Billy Joe Shaver, and, of course, Shel Silverstein. There's a complete LP of Silverstein's songs included within 'Another Log On The Fire,' and several other Silverstein classics on both CDs. These two CDs also include an LP, 'Take The Singer With The Song,' released only in England, as well as bonus tracks and definitive liner notes based on recent interviews with the now-reclusive Tompall Glaser.

GLEN GLENN
Dim Lights, Thick Smoke And Loud Loud Music

1-CD DIGIPAC
BCD 16719 AS

Last year Bear Family released 'Glen Rocks,' a compilation of Glen Glenn’s famous rockabilly sides such as Everybody’s Movin’, One Cup Of - Coffee, Blue Jeans And A Boys Shirt, and many other favorites. But this CD only tells one side of the story!

Like many rockabillies of the 1950s, Glen Glenn started out playing country music. Unlike most, however, Glen grew up in the fertile Los Angeles country music scene, and rubbed shoulders with just about everybody from The Maddox Brothers & Rose to Wynn - Stewart to Porter Wagoner. Not only did Glen appear on the same shows as these stars, in his case they played on his recordings! 'Dim Lights, Thick Smoke' is the first Glen Glenn release that focuses on the music he made before he started rocking. Consisting of home demos, live recordings, unreleased studio cuts and radio station acetates, 'Dim Lights’' shows how a teenage hillbilly music - fan came about latching on to the Big Beat of Rock 'n' Roll.

Collectors, take note: there are half a dozen sides on this compilation that have never been released before!!! Sell all those other compilations you’ve acquired over the years, this new CD 'Dim Lights, Thick Smoke' and last year’s 'Glen Rocks' are the definitive last word in Glen Glenn reissues!

ROBERT GORDON
The Lost Album, Plus

BCD 16251-AH

Robert Gordon was the only rockabilly revivalist to take the old music and do something new, fresh, and original with it. He let the music grow and evolve instead of keeping it stuck in 1955.

Back in 1990, Bear Family issued two volumes of Robert’s RCA and Private Stock recordings. At that time, they tried to locate the missing album without success. They’ve since found them, and they form the cornerstone of this stellar new collection. There are 10 previously unissued songs, featuring the lead guitar of Chris Spedding und Danny Gatton. Then, to round out the set, Bear Family included 11 tracks from 1977, 1978, and 1980 that weren’t included on the first two CDs.

She’s Not Mine Anymore - It Hurts So Much - Run For Your Life - One Day Left - Suspicion - Movin’ Too Slow - You Girl - I Found You - Signs Of Love - Wasting My Time - Girl Like You - So Young So Bad - If This Is Wrong - Blue Eyes (Don’t Run Away) - Is This The Way - Endless Sleep - Woman (You’re My Woman) - Sweet Surrender - It’s In The Bottle - Sea Cruise (Single Version) - Fire (Single Version)

JACK GUTHRIE
When The World Has Turned You Down

BCD 16412 AR

Bear Family’s 1991 collection, 'Oklahoma Hills’, has been one of their best-selling country CDs. Now they have the remainder of Jack Guthrie’s brief, incendiary career captured on two incredible CDs. Jack was the cousin of the legendary WOODY GUTHRIE (indeed Oklahoma Hills was Woody’s song, although Jack took the credit), but Jack’s sound was unlike Woody’s. His bright western swing sound used the cream of the Los Angeles-based country jazz pickers, including Porky Freeman, Red Murrell, Billy Hughes, and Cliffie Stone. 'Milk Cow Blues’, drawn from previously unreleased transcriptions, includes several classic Jimmie Rodgers songs, such as Muleskinner Blues, Any Old Time, Waitin’ For A Train, and My Rough And Rowdy Ways, all given a jazzy west coast feel.

The set also includes fresh, vital versions of several Bob Wills classics, such as Home In San Antone and Maiden’s Prayer, as well as traditional favorites like Footprints In The Snow and There’s More Pretty Girls Than One. 'When The World Has Turned You Down’ features the remainder of Jack’s Capitol session recordings (none of them on 'Oklahoma Hills’) as well as the remainder of his transcriptions. He revitalizes classic country hits from across the spectrum, including Roy Acuff’s Low And Lonely, Ernest Tubb’s You Nearly Lose Your Mind, Red Foley’s Freight Train Blues, The Carter Family’s I’m Thinking Tonight Of My Blue Eyes, and Bob Wills’ Time Changes Everything and Take Me Back To Tulsa. As before, Jack reinterprets traditional favorites like Birmingham Jail, Careless Love, and Trouble In Mind. Both sets feature extensive notes from Guy Logsdon, who has carried out more than 40 years research into the elusive and tragically short-lived Jack Guthrie. When Guthrie died of tuberculosis in 1948 (the disease that had claimed his idol Jimmie Rodgers), one of the most promising careers in west coast country music was over. Now his story is complete for the first time on Bear Family Records.

TRACK LIST: Pins And Needles (In My Heart) - Low And Lonely - Careless Darlin’ - When The World Has Turned You Down - Freight Train Blues - I’m Thinking Tonight Of My Blue Eyes - I’ll Get Along Somehow - You Nearly Lose Your Mind - Please Don’t Leave Me - Time Changing Everything - Ida Red - Take Me Back To Tulsa - The Convict And The Rose - Birmingham Jail - Trouble In Mind - Cindy - Careless Love - Wagoner - This Troubled Mind O’ Mine - Bow Down Brother - It’s Too Late To Change Your Mind - You’re Gonna Be Sorry (Some Of These Days)
