VELAIRES The Screamers To Flairs To Velaires, From Sioux City To Phoenix BCD 16168- AH
Roll Over Beethoven has been covered by almost every band that started rock and roll in the 60s. Some records were not too well done, while others were true to the spirit of the original , and became best selling records. One of these best-sellers that made the Hot 100 was by a band from Sioux City, Iowa, the Velaires.
In 1958 Danny Matousek formed a band with some friends. The group was made up of Danny on rhythm guitar, Bob Lawdy - lead guitar, Don Bourret - drums, and Jerry DeMers - bass. The four members remained together as the Screamers, the Flairs and finally the Velaires. By 1961 the Velaires leased their recordings to Jamie Records on the strength of Roll Over Beethoven, which was originally released on the small, Phoenix based, Palms Records label. All their Jamie issues, plus every track recorded for an unreleased album are included in this new Bear Family release. Also in this set is the bands first record, the very collectable I Dig, on Kay Bank Records, recorded as the Screamers. Even their hard to find version of Summertime Blues is here.
Get ready for some fine mid-west rock and roll, with tight vocal harmonies, a couple of ballads and one instrumental added for fun. The Screamers, the Flairs or the Velaires, whatever name you remember them by, if you grew up as a fan of rock and roll this CD is for you!
I Dig-Roll Over Beethoven-Brazil - Sticks And Stones - Dream - Hey Pretty Baby - Scotch And Soda - Ubangi Stomp - Sweet Little Sixteen - Memories Are Made Of This - Lotta Lovin' - Mule Train - Lovin' You - It's Almost Tomorrow - Yes It's Me - Tragedy Train - Don't Wake Me Up - Locomotion - Johnny B. Goode - Memory Tree - Summertime Blues - Will I - I Can Never Do Enough For You - Sticks And Stones - What Did I Do Wrong - Ubangi Stomp

GENE VINCENT: The Ballads Of BCD16846-AR CD Digipac
Gene Vincent will always be remembered as the Screaming End - the tortured rock 'n' roll singer who rocked harder than anyone in the mid-1950s. What people tend to forget is that Gene had another side, a sweet high voice that lent itself well to ballad material. He grew up with country music and classic pop, and that background comes through on these rarely-heard recordings. From his first session in 1956 until one of his last in 1971, this collection showcases some of the best ballads Vincent ever recorded, from Important Words to Over The Rainbow and The Night Is So Lonely and many more. When the right mood hits you, this collection will send chills down your spine, so enjoy this other side of Gene Vincent!

Listen to the chatter. Share in the decisions! * Fans of legendary producer Joe Meek (the British Phil Spector) will find previously unreleased sessions he produced.
Hardcore Gene Vincent fans - and there are thousands of them out there - have waited all their lives for this collection. Gene died in 1971, and this is the closest his diehard fans will ever get to finding six new CDs of their man in his prime - and the closest they'll ever get to attending a Gene Vincent session. Yes, it's outtakes, but it gives us a chance to hear Gene Vincent's artistry in-the-making. You're there, up in the control room listening to him try a song one way, then another. You can second-guess the producers and listen to the musicians talk it through. If you know every note of the finished song, you can hear how Gene and the Blue Caps got there and share in the decisions along the way. This is truly it. The SCREAMING END. There are no more Gene Vincent recordings to be released in any way, shape, or form. Diehard fans, musicologists, musicians, and old time rock 'n' rollers looking for something new have waited too long for this. The sessions date from October 1958 to March 1967. All known Gene Vincent outtakes are included. Only a tiny fraction of this material has ever been issued before. The highlights include eleven songs from his final sessions with the legendary Blue Caps spread over CDs 1 & 2, including favourites like You Are The One For Me, Rip It Up, Maybelline and Gone, Gone, Gone. Multiple takes of eight songs from his Capitol Studios sessions of January 1961 are included on CDs 2-4, while CDs 4-5 feature Gene Vincent recording in London 1961-63 (six titles from Abbey Road Studios, two from Olympic Sound Studios, and one from a Joe Meek session for the 'Live It Up' movie soundtrack). The final CD contains material from his 1966-67 sessions in Hollywood for Challenge Records.
